A TĀTOU KAUPAPA - Our PRojects

In 2015-18, the Regional Council released a series of reports and fact sheets about the water quality and ecological health of the Kaituna catchment (including drains).

Through this project, we’ll continue to gather and report on information about the state of the Kaituna River catchment. This work will enable Te Maru o Kaituna to see what actions are making a tangible difference to the health and well-being of the Kaituna River and make decisions based on robust data, research and monitoring.

Bay of Plenty Regional Council, including their Putaiao Mātauranga staff, will lead this work that will seek to incorporate matauranga Māori and citizen science (data collection by community members) into research and monitoring work. Tangata whenua, other councils and community groups will also play a role in helping to collect and share environmental and cultural monitoring information.

Planned deliverables include:

• Development and implementation of an integrated monitoring plan by 30 June 2022.
• Ongoing monitoring plan implementation 2023-28, including a plan review and update.
• Produce a five-yearly State of the Awa reports for 2023 and 2028.
